Children and staff of Akuisi comprehensive school in Nakuru County, have struggled
with access to clean water with children forced to walk long distances in search of
water, losing valuable classroom hours. The school also struggled with frequent
hygiene-related illnesses, unsafe meal preparation, and recurring costs to truck in
water. The girls often missed lessons due to poor sanitation and menstrual health
challenges.
Kenindia Assurance, in partnership with CorpsAfrica/Kenya, by providing reliable
access to clean water for over 650 students, staff and residents of Bahati in Rongai,
Nakuru County, have transformed their livelihoods. Today, with access to safe water
within the school compound, they encounter fewer hygiene-related illnesses and
better health overall. The school feeding program runs more efficiently with cleaner
meal preparation, a new kitchen garden , enhancing nutrition for learners most
importantly, students no longer spend hours fetching water, giving them more time to
focus on their studies. Beyond the school, more than 200 households in the locality
and farmers now access the same water supply for their daily needs. This has
strengthened both the school community and the wider Akuisi populace.
For Kenindia, the project represents more than just the provision of water, it is a
demonstration of how targeted interventions can improve health, restore dignity, and
create lasting opportunities for the next generation.
